Our next concert is to be hosted by Impington Music Society and will take place in the Brackenbury Room, Impington Village College, Impington, Cambridge CB24 9LX starting at 7.30pm. Tickets will cost \u00a310 (\u00a35 for under 18s) and will be available online from ‘Ticket Source’ nearer the time or on the door (payment by cash or cheque).<\/p>\n

\u00a0Past Performances<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Saturday 6th September 2025<\/p>\n

We very much enjoyed returning to the Corn Exchange in St Ives, this time at the kind invitation of the Philosophy Group of St Ives U3A. In a very interesting evening, the Philosophy Group performed The Metaphysical Play: The Cogito<\/em>, inspired by the works of the French philosopher Rene Descartes. Our ensemble provided a musical introduction for about half-an-hour before the play which included a set of dances drawn from the operas of Handel, the opening movement of Haydn’s first London Trio, featuring Chloe on flute, and Astor Piazzolla’s tango Oblivion<\/em>. The event was well attended and both our performance and the play were enthusiastically received by the audience. We would like to thank the U3A Philosophy Group for inviting us and look forward to possible future concerts at the Corn Exchange which we have found to be an excellent venue in which to perform.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Friday 30th August 2024<\/p>\n

We were delighted to perform at the Riverport Caf\u00e9 Bar in St Ives Corn Exchange as part of ‘Chapel Arts @ the Corn Exchange’.\u00a0 The venue was quite a departure for us as we’re more used to playing in spacious churches with high ceilings and very different acoustics. The ‘lounge style’ of the Corn Exchange bar took a little getting used to but we greatly enjoyed the experience and the audience seemed very appreciative too. Many thanks to Chapel Arts for giving us the opportunity to be part of their programme for this year (see below).<\/p>\n

A special mention should go to Chloe for her amazing performance. She was only just recovering from a nasty bout of Covid so had had no chance to practise with the rest of us until an hour before the concert – but, despite that, still played the flute beautifully on the Vaughn Williams and sight–read her usual Carnavalito flute part on the octave guitar instead to save her breath for the VW! Awesome!<\/p>\n

Saturday 1st June 2024<\/p>\n

Our concert at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Great Gransden, Huntingdonshire was a very enjoyable occasion, certainly for us, and our performance seemed to go down very well with the audience, too. We would especially like to thank the organisers at the church who made us feel so welcome and also to thank everyone who came to watch and who helped to make the evening special. We much appreciated the kind comments many of you offered during the interval and at the end.\u00a0 The programme included our first performance of the Vaughn Williams Folk Song Suite in full with Chloe’s lovely flute playing being a particular highlight.<\/p>\n

17th June 2023<\/p>\n

On 17th June 2023 we made our third visit to St. Peter’s Church, Offord D’Arcy and played a programme including works by Handel, Haydn, Granados, Vaughn Williams and Mozart, along with some traditional tunes arranged for guitar ensemble. We enjoyed a pleasant summer evening’s music making with an appreciative audience and here are some photos from our rehearsal …<\/p>\n

25th March 2023<\/p>\n

We performed in All Saints Church, Pidley-cum-Fenton. The concert was well attended by a very appreciative audience. The programme\u00a0 included a variety of music to suit all tastes including Granados, Mozart, Vaughn Williams, O\u2019Carolan, Haydn, Duarte, and much more.<\/p>\n

11th February 2023<\/p>\n

We played a short set of pieces as guests of Raunds Community Choir at their ‘Valentine’s Voices’ concert in the Saxon Hall, Raunds. The event was a charity fund-raiser for the Twinkling Stars Appeal which is raising money to build a bereavement suite for Kettering General Hospital maternity unit. Our programme was: Yellow Bird, Yesterday, Carnavalito, The Crystal Spring and the Rondo from Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. Our thanks go to RCC for inviting us again … and for the very kind gifts of flowers and chocolates!<\/p>\n

6th December 2021<\/p>\n

Unfortunately the Raunds Community Choir Christmas concert has had to be cancelled due to a significant increase in the number of Covid cases in the local area. This has been a great disappointment both to the choir and to HGE. It is hoped to organise another event sometime next year.<\/p>\n

We gave two concerts in the Huntingdon area in summer 2019. The first was on\u00a0Saturday 22nd June 2019 at St Peter’s Church in Offord D’Arcy.<\/p>\n

On Sunday 5th August 2018, we performed at the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) fund-raising garden party in Haddenham, Cambridgeshire. The event raised over \u00a37,000 for the charity.<\/p>\n

We had a very enjoyable time playing at the ‘Christmas Wassail Evening’ in the Saxon Hall, Raunds as guests of Raunds Community Choir on 9th December 2017. The event included performances by the choir and by students from Manor School as well as some poetry readings and community carols. We played some of our favourites including parts of the Connemara Suite, Carnavalito and, in a festive mood, the traditional Spanish Christmas song ‘Brincan y Bailan’.
